Once Upon a Design

The latest additions to the Ferris Wheel Press universe take us on a local journey through Toronto’s historic fashion district.
Take a stroll with us down Queen Street West, discovering its perennial lineup of bead establishments as we select the perfect sequin embellishments for this design. Inspired by the playful vintage embroidery of Elsa Schiaparelli and Bob Mackie, we have channeled the helter skelter and alternative pride of Queen West. We charge you to make a statement with this allium toned ink on every page, sentence and stanza.

Notable design details:

  • Delicate and intricate embroidery, sequins and seed beads create a beautiful ferris wheel, an haute couture take on a classic accessory
  • When looking for beads in Toronto, where does one go? Inspired by Queen West and the multitude of bead stores with decades of history
  • Shimmering gold, inspired by golden embroidery thread

punchier than the internet says

thought this might be a dusty lavendar, but NOPE. it is a sparkly and intensely saturated mid-tone purple. I am enjoying the complete lack of magenta and fuchsia undertones and experimenting with layering the ink for increasing shimmer. it writes a little but dry for me, but I am using it as an illustration ink anyway. :)

Queen indeed...

This is one of the strongest shimmer inks I have, it makes me feel fancy to write with haha. I'm enjoying this and Adventurine, both strongly contrasting shimmers to the ink color.

Amazing!

It’s a great low shade of purple that mixes so well with the glitter. Looking forward to writing with this one more!
