Care Instructions

DO NOT post the cap onto your pen when writing. Our pen has been designed and balanced to write with the cap un-posted
The threads of the cap are brass and risk damaging the lacquer if you post the cap
Store pen vertically with the tip pointing upwards when not in use to minimize clogs; routine flushing and maintenance recommended, especially with sparkling inks

Filling your Bijou Fountain Pen

Unwind the grip from the barrel of the pen to reveal the converter
Pull the converter off of the grip assembly
Clean your nib and converter by rinsing it in cold water until water runs clear
If the pen has not been in use for a few weeks, you may need to submerge the nib for an hour to loosen up the ink
Air dry the nib and converter and reassemble when fully dry
Twist the end knob until the piston is fully depressed
Submerge the entire nib into the ink, and SLOWLY twist the piston to draw the ink until the converter is fully extended
It is normal to have some small air pockets at the top of the converter

This emerald green pen is a stunner! The intricate detail on nib as well is amazing. Just the right weight too.

Equisite Aesthetic, but... DO NOT POST!

I was sent the Catnip Cafe - Bijou Fountain Pen as a replacement for a defective pen. Customer service was exceptional in the process and I appreciate them. Thank you!!
The pen is aesthetically exquisite; from the gorgeous two-toned nib to the engraved grip, and the nice glittery, dark green lacquer. The box was gorgeous, as are all packaging from Ferris Wheel Press.
Fair Warning: DO NOT POST the cap. I posted it one time and scratched the barrel of the pen. It's a shame really. I prefer to post my caps.
What I did not enjoy was the writing experience. I found that the engraved grip, while gorgeous, was rough and difficult to hold for a long writing session. The steel nib was incredibly scratchy to me, and I did not feel like the ink flowed well. I tried to write on various types of paper, both fountain pen friendly and standard paper and the nib dragged on the paper in a very uncomfortable way. I inked my pen with Ferris Wheel Press - Misguided Mistletoe. The ink matched the pen beautifully. I have not had any issues with clogging even with the shimmer in the medium nib. For reference my original Carousel had a similar drag on the paper and needed excessive amount of pressure to get an even line.
While I did not enjoy the writing experience, this is a beautiful pen and I am pleased to have it in my collection. I have a number of brands and styles of pens from TWSBI, Kaweco, Pilot, Delta, Conklin, Sailor and more, and by far this is the worst nib experience I have ever had. I realize it is a steel nib, but it could be more smooth like all of my other brands. I would take a TWSBI or a Kaweco any day over a Ferris Wheel Press pen. I will however continue to buy the inks.
Thank you again for sending the pen for me to review as a replacement for my other pen, but I think from now on I will just stick to the inks.

Elegant and smooth

This pen was gifted to me and it did not disappoint. It is elegant and well balanced. It is on the narrower side and the tapered tail could be a tad thicker in diameter to rest better for longer fingers. The nib writes buttery smooth; no skips or hard starts even on cheap paper. Occasionally when stopping to ponder my next thought while journaling, there will be heavy wetting when resuming writing but not enough to deduct a star. The Bijou definitely makes fancy fun and is a highly giftable item.
